Kawa Brass Band
The Jaipur Kawa Brass Band, led by tabla player and artistic director Hameed Khan Kawa, is a vibrant ensemble from Rajasthan, India, showcasing North Indian gypsy heritage. Founded in 1995, the band features seven brass musicians and incorporates captivating performances by a fakir and a kalbelia dancer. Their eclectic repertoire blends traditional Rajasthani music, Bollywood hits, and North Indian classical music, creating a unique and dynamic musical experience. The band performs in traditional attire, bringing energy and humor to their shows, whether on stage or in parades.
Internationally acclaimed, the Jaipur Kawa Brass Band has performed at prestigious events and festivals worldwide, including the Glastonbury Festival, where they shared the stage with Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones. They have also played at significant events like the World Cup of Football, weddings of notable personalities like Ustad Zakir Hussain's daughter and Bollywood singer Kailash Kher, and even welcomed King Charles in Jaipur. Their performances, characterized by virtuoso solos and dazzling improvisations, capture the essence of Indian brass band tradition, making them a standout act in contemporary music.



Parveen & Ilyas khan
Parveen Sabrina Khan and Ilyas Raphaël Khan, hailing from a distinguished Indo-French musical lineage, are the children of the renowned artistic director Hameed Khan Kawa. Parveen is a leading voice of her generation, performing râgas, the melodic frameworks of Indian classical music, and maands, traditional Rajasthani folk songs that are in danger of disappearing. As one of the few guardians of maands, she is dedicated to preserving this endangered cultural heritage.
Ilyas Raphaël Khan is a master of the tabla and a pioneering beatboxer in India, starting at the age of 14. His beatboxing talent earned him a nomination for the French Beatboxing Championships and a collaboration with Alem, the 2015 World Beatboxing Champion. Ilyas gained international fame with a Kit Kat commercial that garnered 27 million views in 24 hours. Together, Parveen and Ilyas blend traditional Indian music with contemporary styles, continuing their family's legacy while innovating on the global music stage.




Tablaboxing
ILYAS RAPHAËL KHAN is an Indo-French musician with a long musical lineage
spanning several generations. The son of the famous artistic director Hameed Khan
Kawa (Musafir, Jaipur Kawa Brass Band, Kawa Circus), he grew up near the Amber
Fort in Jaipur. From an early age his father and grandfather taught him Hindustani
classical Indian music through oral transmission: the taleem.
oday, Ilyas is not only a master of the tabla (Indian percussion) but is also a talented
beatboxer. He took up beatboxing at the age of 14 becoming one of India’s first
beatboxers. He was soon nominated for the French Beatboxing Championships
and had the honour of working with Alem, the 2015 World Beatboxing Champion.
More recently Ilyas’s Kit Kat commercial propelled him into the world of
international beatboxers with a record 27 million views in 24 hours.
Ilyas successfully blends these two practices. His musical talent is to develop
contemporary sounds while keeping the Indian tabla tradition alive. He calls his
musical art ‘TABLABOXING’.
